Madrid attends the 3th World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace

Madrid asiste al III Foro Mundial de Ciudades y Territorios de Paz 26-28 oct

The third edition of the World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace, a multi-stakeholder and multilevel meeting that emphasizes the importance of building coexistence and peace in cities and territories, took place in Mexico from 26 to 28 November.

Its objective was to identify the roots of tensions and violence and to implement public policies, programs and citizen initiatives that help build culture and education for peace.

The event consisted of a process of global, collective and horizontal reflection to offer solutions at the political level and in the implementation of peace-building policies in various territories; to generate an open process of reflection and debate; and to promote more effectively and efficiently the values of building coexistence and peace. In this context, its general program is based on five thematic axes: the Right to the city and economic, social, cultural and environmental Rights (ESCER).

Madrid City Council is part of the International Organizing Committee of the Forum, together with the Government of Mexico City, the City Council and the Regional Council of Barcelona and the Mayors of  Bogotá, San Salvador and La Paz; the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) networks, the World Association of Major Metropolises, the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI), Mayors for Peace, the International Association of Educational Cities and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

Its first edition took place in Madrid in 2017. The following year it was held in Barcelona, Madrid and Paris.

Mr. Juan Carlos de Castro Pita, Deputy Director General of Internationalization, attended this meeting on behalf of Madrid City Council.
