Madrid participates at the encounter about post Covid-19 measures between representatives of the touristic sector of Latin-America and Europe
The International Program of Urban Cooperation (IUC), financed by the European Union, has organized the webinar: Rethinking the touristic city post Covid-19.
The meeting, which took place on 13 May, has been the first one of the webinars that will be focus on knowing and debating about the recovering of cities in different sectors, promoted by the International Program of Urban Cooperation (IUC) of the European Union. The event joined leaders of the cities of Cartagena de Indias, Madrid, Genoa, Rome and Malaga, among members of associations of the touristic sector of Italy and Spain, who discussed how to face the new challenges issued after the worldwide pandemic.
The debate, framed within the Diálogos Abiertos IUC-LAC series, has joined the cities that are integrated in the IUC program and the actors related to tourism. One in ten jobs in the world belong to this area, which is expected to suffer a global loss of more than 2.1 billion dollars and around 75 million of jobs.
The representatives of the five guest’s cities participated with a short exposition about the general challenges of their territories in relation to the touristic sector and the relevant measures which they are working in to be able to recover.
After the presentation of Cartagena de Indias, the representatives of the tourism associations presented their concrete proposals to develop from the private sector.
Finally, all participants in the talk asked their questions via chat, shared with the speakers by the moderator, the Coordinator of Cooperation city-city of IUC-LAC, Sandra Marín.
Representing Madrid City Council, the Director General of Cooperation and Global Citizenship, Mr. Cecilio Cerdán has participated, among the Director of Cooperation of Cartagena de Indias, Ana María González; the Director of Málaga Convention Bureau of Málaga City Council, Francisco Quereda; the head of International Relations of Genoa City Council, Gianluca Saba, and the head of the Assessor Group of Tourism of Rome, Marco Agostini.
The head of the Touristic Intelligence Area of Costa del Sol, Rafael Fuentes and the President of the Associazione I Borghi Piú Belli D’Italia, Fiorello Primi, also took part.
