Municipal authorities from Latin America visit Madrid, interested in cities as a tourist destination
Last October 20, a delegation of Municipal Authorities from Latin America was received in Madrid City Hall, within the framework of the Global Leaders Foundation for the Promotion of Local Governments, in its 8th International Meeting of Local and Regional Governments 2021.
Its main topic was "Cities and municipalities with tourist destinations and municipal investment in local infrastructure for projects".
The delegation was made up by political representatives (Mayors and Councillors) and technical advisors from small municipalities of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Puerto Rico.
They were received by the Head of Tourism Delegate Area of Madrid City Council as well as General Secretary of the Union of Ibero-American Cities (UCCI), Ms. Almudena Maíllo del Valle, and by General Director of Internationalization and Global Citizenship, Mr. Cecilio Cerdán.
Mr. Cecilio Cerdán recalled the historical links between the city of Madrid, and particularly our City Council, with the Ibero-American cities, as well as the consolidation of Madrid as the hub between Europe and Latin America.
On the other side, Ms. Almudena Maíllo briefly announced some of the main tourism and cultural proposals that make Madrid a unique destination, along with the “Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro. A Landscape of Arts and Sciences”, which received the honourable distinction of becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 25 of this year.
Afterwards, a guided tour alongside Cibeles building and the Plenary Hall of Madrid City Council took place.
