Visit of the Belgian Minister for Development Cooperation and Large Cities Policy to Madrid City Hall
The Mayor of Madrid, Mr José Luis Martínez-Almeida, held a meeting last Monday, March 28 at the Palacio de Cibeles with the Belgian Minister for Development Cooperation and Large Cities Policy, Ms Meryame Kitir.
They both shared the different working lines developed by the City Council in the field of innovation in social policies, especially those aimed at providing new opportunities and offering dignified alternatives to homeless people and victims of gender violence. The two leaders also agreed to exchange best practices and collaboration policies.
After the meeting with the mayor, the Belgian Minister visited the Beatriz Galindo centre for homeless women, first of its kind in Spain, accompanied by the delegate of Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Mr Pepe Aniorte, who has conveyed the Council's commitment to innovation in the strategy of care for homelessness.
In this regard, Councilman Aniorte explained to Minister Kitir that the social area of the City Council is focused on promoting innovative resources based on dignity to provide new opportunities for the homeless, among which he highlighted the Beatriz Galindo centre.
The following day the Minister visited one of the individual homes of the "Housing First" Program, managed by the company Hogar Sí, accompanied by officials from Madrid City Council's Area of Families, Equality and Social Welfare and International Area, as well as the Director of the "Soluciones Sí" Unit and the Director of the "Hosing first" Program at Provivienda.
