Institutions with public participation

The Madrid City Council is part of many public consortiums, networks and Foundations, together with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation since 1992, as part of the of Public Diplomacy Policy.

This model started with Casa de America, which fostered a strong, inter-cultural dialogue between Spanish society and Latin America, enhancing the role of Madrid as bridge between this continent and Europe.

The model was used afterwards to create similar public consortiums –, Casa Árabe, Centro Sefarad-Israel Casa Asia and Casa Africa -, which have reinforced the external action of Spain and Madrid. Madrid is the seat of Casa America, Casa Arabe and Centro Sefarad-Israel. Casa Asia has its principal headquarter in Barcelona and an office in Madrid.

Madrid participates in the Council Foundations network as well, which are also an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Through this network, bilateral relations are fostered by states, by making public administrations, civil society and business sector involved.  Madrid City Council is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Council Foundations Spain-Japan, Spain-China and Spain-India
