Madrid attends 1st Spain Urban Forum and 3rd Global Forum of Local Governments

Madrid asiste al I Foro Urbano de España y III Foro Global de Gobiernos Locales 5-7 oct

The 1st Urban Forum of Spain was held in Seville from 5 to 7 October, coinciding with the 3rd Global Forum of Local Governments. This Forum addresses social and economic recovery of cities and territories, assuming the commitment and involvement of several urban actors interested in sustainable urban development.

The Forum, organized by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of Spain (MIMA) and Seville City Council, with the support of UN-Habitat, addressed the issue of Cities and Territories in social and economic recovery.

The Forum was organized around four main discussions identified as strategic issues in the implementation process of the Spanish Urban Agenda:

• Ecological transition and city model

• Transformation and digital innovation

• Territory, City and Health

• Equity and Social Cohesion in urban areas: the role of housing

In addition, other issues were discussed, such as Subnational Urban Agendas: Tools to increase multilevel collaboration.

As part of the Forum, the 2nd Meeting of National Urban Policies Spain-Latin America and the Caribbean was also held.

The event concurred in place and time with the 3rd  Global Forum of Local Governments of Seville, which provided synergies, specially from the citizens closest administration.

Councillor of Delegated Area of Internationalization and Cooperation of the Madrid City Council, Mr. Santiago Saura, has participated in the event Focus on European missions for urban transformation-CitiES 2030: accelerating climate neutrality. CitiES 2030 is an initiative shaped by the Cities of Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Valencia that aims to place Spain in the European avantgarde of climate action and the promotion of systemic innovation with a mission approach. It seeks to accelerate the implementation of solutions that result in social, economic and environmental benefits. This initiative also looks for the materialization of collaboration, shared learning, multi-stakeholder alliances, multi-level governance models and eventually involvement of citizens through co-creation processes.

The Councillor has presented the guidelines for progress and the roadmap for climate neutrality in the city of Madrid, with the support of European recovery funds and the portfolio of transformative projects included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the city of Madrid.

Along with the Councilor, both Advisor of the Internationalization and Cooperation Area, Mr. Nicolas Gharbi and General Director of Cooperation and Global Citizenship, Mr. Cecilio Cerdán, have attended the Forum.
