Towards the Forum; Madrid attends the Third edition of the World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace

In 2017 and 2018, first and second editions of the World Forum on Urban Violence and Education for Coexistence and Peace took place Madrid, with the aim of sharing the analysis about the several levels of violence in cities and territories, as well as to present their experiences in building peace from the area of education, culture, sport, citizenship participation and the recovering of public spaces, by examining the legislation and social justice.

During the second edition, there were progress in local, regional and global level politics were made, issuing a “Commitment for an agenda of cities of coexistence and peace”.

The Government of the City of Mexico, together with an International Organizing Committee (IOC) in which different  authorities (international, regional, national and local organisms) take part, assumed the accomplishment of a third edition of this Forum.

The COVID-19 pandemic showed that vulnerability affects mankind as a whole, either by natural or social causes. The multiple crisis (sanitary, social, economic and political) provoked by this pandemic also shows the need of adding value the culture of the common, the coexistence, the politics of caring, the circular economy, the sustainability and the balance with nature.

The process of the World Forum on Cities and Territories of Peace was held from 5 to 7 October. The opening event was known as Towards the Forum: a series of virtual meetings whose objective will be to take up the dialogue launched in Madrid in 2017 and to generate momentum to the face to face meeting which will take place in the City of Mexico in April 2021.

The Councilor Delegate of the Internationalization and Cooperation Area, Mr Santiago Saura participated in this first call, as well as in the plenary session: Women, culture of peace and no violence.
